Significantly better than the first one, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is still Marvel’s sitcom, but “Vol. 2” uses emotion in the third act and inserts more dynamic female characters to its benefit. While the plot line still involves saving the universe (something I keep hoping Marvel writers will tire of) the theme of family and […]
The ‘Fate’ of the series is secure. There will always be an audience for these films regardless of what implausibility they launch on screen or how poorly the actors deliver their lines. Universal’s mammoth franchise has even started to pull in Oscar winners like Charlize Theron (“Mad Max”) and Helen Mirren (“The Woman in Gold”)
Trainspotting was one of those films that hit just before cinema took over my world. It was such an iconic film for the 90’s, most people interested in cinema, or just curious saw it. I did, wasn’t impressed, and it took a few movies to embrace Danny Boyle’s particular style of filmmaking. It certainly put
Movies for women really don’t get any dumber than the ‘Fifty Shades’ series. Men get dumb movies all the time, xXx sequels, Fast & Furious, even the recent John Wick film, despite all its style, is a pretty feebleminded action flick. For the most part genre films – romance and action; are two sides of
If you like paying additional money to see the exact same movie you have already watched, the John Wick sequel is the perfect movie for you. Reeves and his stunt director from “The Matrix Trilogy” return for Chapter 2, which picks up right where the 2014 film left off. The opening sequence is loud, violent
Finally! Disney has finally grown a pair and embraced the notion of death and consequences in a franchise film. Ever so scared of disturbing a money making formula, the recently acquired Disney franchise, goes far beyond killing a minor character in The Avengers series or discarding an actor because of his age in the “Star
It’s Oscar season, all those gripping and emotional true stories hitting theaters, rescuing viewers from a summer of sequels. However, we must keep in mind that not all ticket buyers want to be enlightened, some don’t want to leave the multiplex with warm hearts, which is why the sequel to the 2003 raunchy comedy exists.
Why are these films so bad, and why do they keep getting made? When Tom Hanks did the first “Da Vinci Code” (2006) film it was a hit because of the fandom with the books, but was poorly received. Hanks hasn’t been nominated for an Oscar since becoming involved with the Dan Brown adaptation franchise.
It really took some effort to make Jack Reacher 2 worse than the first one. Cruise is on autopilot, making one action movie a year, and this was just the next script in the pile. It’s not exciting, it’s not thrilling, it not only lacks anything new with Lee Child’s character, but it can’t even
Right next to The Huntsman Winters War, Alice Through the Looking Glass and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, you will find Blair Witch listed among 2016’s most unnecessary sequels. The original 1999 phenomenon The Blair Witch Project captivated audiences around the globe using handheld footage. This would be the first time a
